Facial Fillers & Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about facial fillers, plus answers to the most common questions.

Wrinkles can form anywhere on the face, most commonly around the eyes and lips. Unfortunately, aging is inevitable. Most of us notice the early signs of aging with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, sagging and creases that form in the delicate areas around the eyes and lips. However, wrinkles are not always caused by aging. In fact, everyday activities like laughing, smiling, squinting or even using a straw regularly can contribute to the formation of wrinkles.

Most wrinkles can be addressed with the use of Botox, facial dermal fillers or varying types of facial treatments. Dermal Fillers add volume and definition by altering contours to help regain a more youthful appearance. This can also help to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and improve the appearance of sagging areas of the face.

What Is A Dermal Filler?

A dermal filler is a non-surgical medical treatment that is injected to correct the signs of aging seen with the appearance of lines, wrinkles, creases, volume loss and sagging.

Injectables for the face come in 2 forms: hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in the skin), which creates a filling or plumping effect by creating volume to the injection sites, and neuromodulators which relax the injected muscle. Both can improve and reduce the characteristics of the skin that is affected by the signs of aging. We have the opportunity to adjust and enhance facial features with the use of dermal fillers. They dramatically reformed the way our doctors and nurses treat their patients when it comes to cosmetic procedures. Our injectors believe in the importance of providing all the necessary information and education to our patients so they will feel comfortable in the process of receiving the right type of injectable filler products, exclusive for the various areas of the face and specific to each patient’s needs. Below are some frequently asked questions about the reasons why we need different facial fillers for different areas of the face.

Why Do We Need A Different Injectable For Different Areas Of The Face?

Each filler provides a different brushstroke for the injector and your face is the canvas. For some, what is needed is structure, for others it is volume and some need both. Some areas are more sensitive and more prone to disintegration than other areas. For example, the muscles around the eye area are delicate and more likely to wrinkle faster than the larger muscles like the masseter muscles that cover the jaw. The different components of the facial muscles determine the type of fillers that are used along with other factors like the severity of wrinkles measured by the depth and age of the wrinkles. The different facial muscles on the face have different mechanisms in the way they move and how they are affected by the aging process.

Which Facial Filler Is Used For The Eye Area?

Our injectors use Restylane Silk or Juvéderm Ultra to treat the eye area because we have seen incredible long-lasting results in our patients with the use of this type of dermal filler. Fillers injected to the eye trough can significantly help bags and dark circles under the eyes.

What Filler Is Used For The Lips?

Juvéderm one of the most effective ways to add volume and plump up the lips. When it comes to a good lip filler, Juvéderm has established itself as the gold standard of the modern lip filler. It’s one of the safest lip fillers on the market. Juvéderm adds volume to the lips, creating that much-desired pout. This top dermal filler also has many other advantages. It’s one of the go-to products for treating fine lines and wrinkles. Just like Juvéderm, Restylane is a range of cosmetic injectable fillers that are a formulation of hyaluronic acid. With approval by the FDA since 2003, used for lip sculpting and wrinkle treatment.

Restylane has long-lasting results which can last from 6 months to even a couple of years. The best thing about lip fillers on hyaluronic acid formulation is if you don’t like the look, an enzyme can be injected to break it down and get you back to normal within a day or two.
