Laser skin resurfacing is a safe and effective way to achieve younger looking skin.
At New Image Med Spa our specialists utilize the latest technology to achieve incredible results. Laser skin resurfacing has been proven to show improvement of:
- Wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth, eyes, and forehead
- Scars resulting from chickenpox or acne
- Sun and age-related skin damage
- Birthmarks and liver spots
- Enlargement of pores
- Grayish or yellow skin tones
This procedure is especially effective in delicate areas as it allows for a high degree of precision. As an outpatient procedure, laser skin resurfacing can be performed in as little as 30 minutes or as long as 2 hours. Results typically occur over several months as your skin heals and tightens
Preparing for Laser Skin Resurfacing
It is important to have a consultation with one of our skincare specialists before deciding to have a laser skin resurfacing treatment. Dr. Hetrick has over 20 years of experience, and our highly trained aestheticians are experts in determining if a laser peel is a right procedure for you. There are contraindications that should be discussed during your consultation as well as medical history that may need a physician’s consent.
For 10 days prior to your treatment avoid supplements and medications that affect blood clotting. This includes common over the counter items like vitamin E, ibuprofen, and aspirin. Smoking can also have an adverse effect on the healing process, therefore it is highly advised to refrain from smoking for at least two weeks prior to treatment. Antiviral or antibiotic medication may also be prescribed during the consultation.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Treatment
A mild topical anesthetic is often applied to the area before your skin resurfacing treatment begins to ensure your comfort. Your treatment provider will precisely guide the laser as it pulses concentrated beams of light to penetrate the surface of the skin. This creates a healing response that rejuvenates the skin a single layer at a time, reducing the likelihood you will experience skin lightening or hypopigmentation.
What can I expect after Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Palomar laser skin resurfacing is typically described as feeling like a mild sunburn. The most common post-treatment symptoms are swelling and redness. Initially, your skin may feel tight or itchy. It is important to follow the post-care instructions and apply the appropriate skin care products as instructed. Do not scratch the area as this can cause scarring. 5 to 7 days post-treatment your skin may gradually peel revealing a fresh, smoother, and tighter new skin layer below.
Am I a Candidate for Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The ideal candidate for laser skin resurfacing should not have very dark skin or acne. Laser vaporization is not recommended for the treatment of stretch marks. During your consultation, we will determine if laser skin resurfacing is right for you. New Image Med Spa offers a variety of procedures for every skin type and we would be happy to recommend an ideal treatment just for you.
