Brown spots are composed of concentrated pigment molecules called melanin or concentrated pigment cells called melanocytes. These brown spots can develop for a number of reasons. Causes can include sun exposure, genetic factors, hormonal changes, aging and medications like estrogen among others.
All of these can contribute to or cause sunspots and brown spots. This excess melanin can reside in many different skin layers, and depending on which, may require different treatments. At New Image Med Spa we can identify where the brown spots reside, and provide the according treatment or treatments necessary to remove and reduce the appearance of them.
We offer a number of treatments that have proven effective in significantly reducing or removing brown spots. These services are all carried out by certified Estheticians trained in the safe and effective use of technology designed for comfortable and effective brown spot removal and reduction.
Microneedling – Microneedling is a fantastic treatment for pigmentation issues, especially for those who suffer from Melasma or are a higher Fitzpatrick. We believe Microneedling is one of the most effective and safest services to treat pigmentation with little downtime.
Microneedling gives your skin a boost to restart its growth process. Microneedling involves the use of a pen which contains several tiny needles which are aligned equidistantly. The pen is used to inject these needles at different depths and speed while effortlessly gliding over the skin to create “micro channels”. This is called the collagen induction therapy because the small injuries made to the skin cause surface bleeding, compelling the body to start its healing process. The old layer of skin starts becoming dry and in a week or so peels off. Over a period of 10 to 14 days, the skin deeply exfoliates, removing and reducing pigmentation. Dark spots of both the epidermis and the dermis layers of the skin can be reduced with the help of microneedling. The procedure requires 3 to 6 sessions with a gap of 4 to 8 weeks between each session. The skin starts responding after the first session and at the end of the whole procedure, you get rejuvenated, firmer and spot-free skin!
Photofacials – Our Palomar pulsed light systems excel at brown spot removal. With an incredible reduction in downtime over previous treatments, it is both quick and effective. Palomar systems use a special handpiece that can filter light into different spectral bands. Specific bands are particularly good for different treatments, and your Esthetician will ensure you receive the spectral band best suited for brown spot removal.
These pulses of light are absorbed by your brown spots, sunspots, and blood vessels. This light is then converted into heat. The heat dissolves the cell responsible for the unwanted pigment and shrinks the surrounding vessels. It can be used anywhere except for the skin surrounding the eyes.
Microdermabrasion – For surface brown spot removal, microdermabrasion can be very effective. This non-surgical option safely abrades the skin using microcrystals. These crystals are rapidly vacuumed into a waste container and disposed of after the procedure. Oxygen is increased in areas where the skin cells have been abraded, causing the body to rapidly replenish the damaged cells with healthy new ones.
After cleaning the skin, it will be toned and treated. The Esthetician will then perform up to three passes over the desired area. The treatment ends with crystal removal, a moisturizing masque, and an application of sunblock. Skin will usually exhibit a pink hue for up to 24 hours after the treatment.
Chemical Peels – Chemical Peels are a wonderful option for brown spot removal. At New Image Med Spa we use patented PCA®, Lira Clinical & Epionce Peel Exfoliating Treatments. These peels actually inhibit melanin pigment production through exfoliating and bleaching of the trouble area. Our Peel Exfoliating Treatments come in a variety of formulas including the HQ free treatment, a great choice for those with sensitive skin or allergies to hydroquinone.
Most conditions only require light peels which are gentle and cause very little discomfort, and results can be dramatic. In addition to brown spot removal, chemical peels can also cause a noticeable reduction in fine lines, acne, and improved skin tone and texture.
